VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Amanda and Hana Moll capped off the two best indoor seasons in collegiate history in the pole vault by going 1-2 at the NCAA Indoor Championships, shaking off all pressure and all contenders to stand together atop the podium. Amanda, who has set the NCAA Record four times this season, took her first national title, while Hana placed second, with both women clearing the same final height.

The historic top-two finish gave the Washington women's team a huge 18 team points early on day one of the two-day meet, held at the Virginia Beach Sports Center. The women's DMR then grabbed eighth-place for one more point as the women are tied for second overnight with 19 team points. It's already the most points the Husky women have ever scored at NCAA Indoors.

More major highlights included Amina Maatoug and Chloe Foerster both advancing to the women's mile final, and finals tickets punched on the men's side by Nathan Green and Ronan McMahon-Staggs in the mile, and Justin O'Toole and Cole Lindhorst in the men's 800-meters, Lindhorst advancing on review after being tripped and taking a bad fall in his prelim.

After rewriting the NCAA record-book this indoor season, the challenge remained for the Moll twins to fend off one of the deepest fields in history and back up the records with championships.

Somewhat unusually for them, both Hana and Amanda jumped at the opening bar of 13-11 1/4. Hana cleared it easily, but Amanda checked up in the air on her first attempt. She overcame any early nerves and easily cleared on attempt two, and from there it was smooth sailing for both sophomores.

They each had first attempt clearances at 14-5 1/4 and 14-9 as the field dwindled to just four women over that height. At 15-1, they were the first two jumpers and both cleared on first attempts. The final competitors, Olivia Lueking of Oklahoma and Mason Meinershagen of Kansas, both couldn't make that height, as the twins officially secured the top spots.

But the title was still to be decided. At that point Hana had the lead, but Amanda cleared 15-5 on her first attempt to go into first. Hana missed her first two tries but then made that bar on her third to stay alive. Each of those makes broke the Meet Record of 15-3 1/2 that had stood since 2018. Going up to 15-9, both Dawgs took three attempts but neither was able to make it today, with Amanda therefore taking the win based on fewer attempts at the 15-5 bar.

"I opened up at a pretty low bar, just to get one out of the way," said Amanda. "I didn't make it on my first attempt, but made it on my second attempt. From there I just tried to keep everything consistent throughout the meet, and it worked out. I'm so excited because Hana's and my goal always is to go one-two no matter what order. I love my team so much and the fact that we can contribute (18 team points) warms my heart."

"I knew I could do great things but I had no idea what that looked like," said Moll. "This season has pushed me to see beyond my limitations, and not put limits on myself as a vaulter. That will carry well into the bigger competitions against these pro women, I know that I'm right up there with them now."

Amanda and Hana now own one NCAA title apiece, with Hana winning the same title a year ago. Hana has now collected a gold, silver, and bronze in her three NCAA competitions to date.

?? for Hana Moll as she and her sister go 1?-2? to score a huge 18 team points!

Hana matched Amanda's 15-5 clearance, also setting the Meet Record, with Amanda winning based on fewer misses.

The other podium spot today came from the women's DMR, rolling out a lineup of Julia David-Smith, Anna Terrell, Claire Yerby, and Mia Cochran. The Dawgs fought their way to an eighth-place finish in 11:02.31, earning First Team All-America honors. It's the best NCAA finish for the women's DMR since 2019 when they were seventh.

The women will have more chances for points on Saturday as Maatoug and Foerster each made it into the 10-woman mile final. It will be the first time two Husky women are in the mile final since 2008. Maatoug took third in her prelim in a time of 4:36.18 to make it through, and Foerster finished second in the next heat in 4:34.74 to reach her first individual final.

There will be two Husky men in the mile final as well for the third year in a row. Nathan Green and Ronan McMahon-Staggs will look to make it six in a row for the mid-distance Dawgs in an NCAA final. Green won his prelim in 3:56.91. McMahon-Staggs made his first NCAA final by flinging himself across the finish line to make sure he held on to a top-four spot. He did just that, taking third in his heat in 4:01.76.

In the men's 800-meters, heat one featured Kyle Reinheimer and Cole Lindhorst, and Justin O'Toole was in the second heat. On the final lap of the first heat, Lindhorst was taken down from behind by a falling runner, and hit the track hard. Despite a bruised and cut shoulder, Lindhorst got up and finished the race. After review, he was advanced into the final the very hard way. Reinheimer finished sixth in the heat in 1:49.93 and would not advance, earning Second Team All-America.

In heat two, O'Toole took command on the bell lap and powered his way to the victory in 1:46.68, punching his ticket to his first NCAA individual final.

Also earning Second Team All-America honors for the men were the men's DMR, and Scott Toney in the pole vault.

Toney cleared the first two bars of the vault competition on first attempts, going over 17-7 and then 17-11 to sit atop the standings. But he ran into trouble at 18-3 and he was unable to go any higher. Toney wound up 10th overall.

Closing out day one was the men's DMR, going with the group of Rhys Hammond, a couple freshmen in Bodi Ligons and Martin Barco, then senior Leo Daschbach anchoring. The Dawgs finished up in 11th-place tonight in 9:31.11

The day began shortly after 9 a.m. local time with Jami Schlueter in the heptathlon. Schlueter opened the 60-meter dash with the second-best time of his career, going 6.98 to take fifth in that event. But he had a tough series in the long jump with an opener of 21-8 1/4 and then two fouls, which dropped him into 15th-place through two events. He bounced back in a huge way with the three best shot put marks of his career, going 49-10, then 49-1, and finally 50-2. That was the second-best mark in that event to rise back up the standings to sixth. Schlueter then capped the day with a 6-3 1/4 make in the high jump to end the day in seventh overall.

He'll pick things back up with the 60m hurdles on Saturday morning at 6:30 a.m. Pacific time, followed by the pole vault and the 1,000-meter run.
